Lions Clubs International President Visits School
Dedication and LCIF Grant Awards
On Friday, October 18, 2002 the new DuBard School for Language Disorders building
was dedicated by University of Southern Mississippi President Shelby Thames.
A very large crowd, including a number of Hattiesburg area Lions, attended the
dedication ceremony. DuBard School founder Dr. Etoile DuBard (deceased) was a
member of the Hattiesburg Lions Club and a Lions Clubs International Melvin Jones
Fellow.
Dr. Maureen Martin, the DuBard School Director, is a member of the
Hattiesburg
Lions
Club and is also a Melvin Jones Fellow.
During the dedication ceremony, it was announced that the Lions
Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has made a second grant to the DuBard School
for the purchase of classroom
equipment. The $27,820 grant was used to purchase audiological assessment
equipment.
The DuBard School had previously received a $75,000 LCIF grant to support the
new building construction project. With the help of Mississippi Lions, total
Lions Clubs support for the building project exceeded $100,000. A DuBard School
classroom is dedicated to the Lions Clubs International Foundation and the Lions
of Mississippi.
